Suggestions Module

Collect member ideas in dedicated channels, vote with reactions, and accept, deny, or update each suggestion from Discord.

A practical walkthrough

8 min read · Updated Jul 21, 2026

The Suggestions module turns selected text channels into suggestion boxes. Members post ideas, Discortics reposts them as embed cards with upvote, neutral, and downvote reactions, and your staff can accept, deny, or update each suggestion from Discord.

Most suggestion tasks can be completed without leaving Discord. The Dashboard does not provide a separate suggestions screen, so configure the module with /suggestion settings.

Features

  • Run multiple suggestion channels in the same server.
  • Convert every member message into a managed suggestion embed with vote reactions.
  • Accept or deny suggestions from any channel using a message link or channel ID and message ID pair.
  • Repost accepted or denied suggestions to dedicated archive channels.
  • Change the status of a suggestion between pending, accepted, and denied at any time.
  • Send DM updates to the author when their suggestion status changes.
  • Add a neutral reaction for ideas that are not clearly positive or negative.
  • Show live vote counts on accepted and denied embeds.
  • Block specific members from posting suggestions.

Before You Begin

Staff members need the Manage Server permission to configure the module or review suggestions. Discortics needs permission to Send Messages, Embed Links, Add Reactions, Use External Emojis, and Manage Messages in the suggestion channels. Accepted and denied archive channels need the same Send Messages and Embed Links permissions.

When a member posts a suggestion, Discortics deletes the original message and reposts it as an embed card in the same channel. Members must have permission to send messages in the configured suggestion channels for their idea to be picked up.

Discord limits: Embed descriptions support up to 1,024 characters. Discortics truncates longer messages so the suggestion embed stays valid. Attach an image to your message and Discortics will include the first image on the suggestion embed.

Suggestion Limits

Limits depend on which Discortics bot serves your server.

Suggestion channels2510
Banned members51020

Accepted and denied archive channels are not counted toward the suggestion channel limit. They are only available when the server has exactly one suggestion channel.

Create Your First Suggestion Channel

  1. Run /suggestion settings in your server.
  2. Choose Channels from the panel.
  3. Select one or more text channels from the channel menu.
  4. Choose DM in the panel if you want authors to receive a DM when their suggestion is accepted, denied, or updated.
  5. Optional: choose Stats if you want vote counts shown on accepted and denied embeds, and Neutral if members should be able to cast a neutral reaction.
  6. Run /suggestion accept or /suggestion deny on a suggestion to confirm the workflow.

Every setting is saved the moment you complete its menu. There is no separate save command in Discord.

Options Explained

Open /suggestion settings to see and change every option. The panel lists your current values at the top.

Channels

The text channels that Discortics watches for suggestions. Every message posted in a configured channel is deleted and reposted as a managed suggestion embed. Members who are on the banned list are removed before their message is reposted.

You can add up to your bot's suggestion channel limit. Remove a channel from the list to stop it from being treated as a suggestion box.

Accepted Channel

A separate text channel where accepted suggestions are reposted. Leave it empty to update the suggestion embed in place. This option is only available when the server has exactly one suggestion channel.

Denied Channel

A separate text channel where denied suggestions are reposted. Leave it empty to update the suggestion embed in place. This option is only available when the server has exactly one suggestion channel.

Banned Users

A list of members whose messages are deleted in suggestion channels instead of being reposted. Use this to keep disruptive or low-effort members out of the suggestion queue without removing them from the server.

DM Status Change

Sends a DM to the suggestion author when their suggestion is accepted, denied, or updated. DMs include a link back to the suggestion message. Discortics silently skips the DM when the author has direct messages closed.

React Only

When enabled, Discortics adds the vote reactions to the original member message instead of reposting it as a managed embed. React-only suggestions cannot be accepted, denied, or updated with /suggestion accept, /suggestion deny, or /suggestion status. Use this mode when you want a lightweight vote on every idea without a formal review workflow.

Show Stats

Shows upvote, neutral, and downvote counts on the suggestion embed after it is accepted or denied. When this is off, the counts are removed from the embed and the staff reply stays focused on the decision.

Neutral Vote

Adds a third neutral reaction alongside the upvote and downvote reactions. Disable it for a simple two-option vote.

Submit a Suggestion

  1. Type your idea in a configured suggestion channel.
  2. Send a message with at least 3 characters of text or attach an image.
  3. Discortics deletes your original message and reposts it as a managed embed.
  4. Members vote by reacting with the upvote, neutral, and downvote reactions.
  5. Staff accept, deny, or update the suggestion with /suggestion accept, /suggestion deny, or /suggestion status.

Suggestions are not reposted when:

  • Your message has less than 3 characters of text and no image attachment.
  • You are on the banned users list.
  • Discortics lacks Add Reactions or Use External Emojis in the channel.

Review Suggestions

Staff need the Manage Server permission. Use one of the formats below as the suggestion value for any review command:

  • A Discord message link such as https://discord.com/channels/guildId/channelId/messageId.
  • A channelId-messageId pair such as 123456789012345678-123456789012345678.
  • A bare message ID, only when the server has a single suggestion channel.

Accept a Suggestion

Run /suggestion accept suggestion:<reference> reply:<optional reply>.

Discortics marks the suggestion as accepted. If an accepted archive channel is configured and the server has exactly one suggestion channel, the embed is reposted there. Otherwise the original suggestion embed is updated in place. The embed shows the moderator name, the reply, and the vote counts.

Deny a Suggestion

Run /suggestion deny suggestion:<reference> reply:<optional reply>.

Discortics marks the suggestion as denied. If a denied archive channel is configured and the server has exactly one suggestion channel, the embed is reposted there. Otherwise the original suggestion embed is updated in place.

Update the Status

Run /suggestion status suggestion:<reference> status:<pending|accepted|denied>.

Use this when you need to change a decision, move a suggestion back to review, or fix a status that was set by mistake. The available values are pending, accepted, and denied. Discortics edits the embed in place and, when DM status change is enabled, DMs the author with the new status.

Warning: Accepted and denied embeds show a "Reply" field with the moderator message and reason. Members can see this text in the suggestion channel. Keep replies short, neutral, and respectful.

Delete a Suggestion

Discortics does not provide a dedicated delete command. Staff can delete a suggestion by deleting the managed embed message in Discord. The original member message was already removed when the suggestion was created.

Deleting a suggestion embed frees no bot limit. Suggestion limits apply to the number of channels and banned members, not the number of stored suggestions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my suggestion not being reposted?

Confirm the channel is in /suggestion settings → Channels, your message has at least 3 characters of text or an image, you are not on the banned users list, and Discortics has Add Reactions and Use External Emojis in that channel.

Can I accept or deny a suggestion with react-only mode enabled?

No. React-only suggestions cannot be accepted, denied, or updated. Disable react-only mode in /suggestion settings → React Only if you want to use the review commands.

Why are the accepted and denied archive channel options greyed out?

Archive channels are only available when the server has exactly one suggestion channel. Remove the extra channels from /suggestion settings → Channels, then reopen the panel to set an archive.

Can I review a suggestion from another channel?

Yes. Use a message link or a channelId-messageId pair when the server has more than one suggestion channel. A bare message ID only works in single-channel mode.

Will the author know when their suggestion changes status?

Only when DM Status Change is on in /suggestion settings. Discortics skips the DM silently when the author has direct messages closed.

Does this module use the Dashboard?

The Dashboard does not provide a separate suggestions screen. Use /suggestion settings for configuration and the review commands for day-to-day work.
